Hi friends!

In August 2022, I was releasing an early version of Hexenaat, my project for a pixel font with an unapologetically gothic aesthetic, without knowing it would eventually become the project that made by far the most impressions among my projects on Itch.io. 

As the font would raise interest, it motivated me to finally get back to it and move from the prototype stage to a proper release version (my special thanks to people who tipped the project!). And so here we are one year later, I’m happy to announce the Hexenaat project is released! 

Overall, this second iteration of Hexenaat bears a more streamlined design compared to the WIP version. Content wise, the release version features a new set of punctuation glyphs. In details:

What changed?

• Consistent font specs
  • ascent: 24px
  • descent: 8px
  • x-height: 16px
• Reworked uppercase and lowercase letters

• Punctuation
  • Major rework on punctuation
  • Added punctuation glyphs: { } [ ] * ~ @ & $ % #

• Digits
  • Digits are now at x-height (16px)
  • Reduced digit width to 10px (except “1” which is now 6px wide)

What is left unchanged?

• Hexenaat’s core gothic aesthetic and creepy accents
• The 32px base type size

What now?

• Hexenaat2 (release version) is up for sale at a democratic price
• Possibly, more lowercase glyphs for european languages to come
